THE SAILBOAT
AND THE WORKS

Because a world tour by sail without a good sailboat is destined to fail, here is the presentation of our means of transportation, our home, and our life insurance for the next two years: our sailboat Wije Blick II, a second-hand Sun Kiss 45 from the Jeanneau shipyard, built in 1985.

SUN KISS 45

It is a 13.25 meters long fixed keel live-aboard monohull. It was designed by naval architect Philippe Briand and produced in series with 315 units built between 1983 and 1992. This sailboat, being part of a large production series (for a sailboat of this size), benefits from extensive user feedback, a strong community of enthusiasts, and an excellent reputation.

Regarding the decision to choose a second-hand sailboat, it became an ecological and economical choice. Indeed, the production of a new sailboat consumes a considerable amount of raw materials, energy, and generates a large amount of waste and CO2 emissions. So, why not give a second life to one of the 140,000 abandoned sailboats that are languishing in our ports (according to ADEME)?

After months of thorough research, visits, and comparisons of second-hand sailboats, our choice eventually fell on this sailboat, which had been out of the water for 3 years and required numerous repairs, including structural ones. What could have been seen as a constraint turned out to be the perfect opportunity to create a tailor-made sailboat for our world tour and learn all the technical skills that can be crucial in case of emergencies at sea.
